Estimating your bricks
Take a garden wall in Greater London 4 m long and 1.05 m high: 4.2 m². At 60 bricks per square metre plus 5% for cuts that is 265 bricks, roughly 1 pack of 500 depending on the maker, laid in about 0.25 tonnes of building sand and 3 bags of cement at a 1:4 mix. Try the brick calculator
How delivery works in Greater London
Bricks come in strapped packs, usually on a pallet, and are lifted off by a lorry-mounted crane where the drop point allows. Our standard mainland delivery area covers Greater London.
- Pallets left on a pavement can block the footway, so plan a drop point inside your boundary where you can.
- If the site is up a shared drive or behind other houses, tell us the distance from the road.
- Mention any overhead cables, low branches or narrow gateways, because they decide whether a crane offload is possible.
Bricks: choosing well
Matching an existing house
Bring us the brick name if you know it, or a clear photo of a cleaned face in daylight with a tape measure for scale. Size matters as much as colour: older imperial bricks are often slightly larger than 65 mm.
Engineering Class A or B?
Class A is the denser of the two and is usually chosen where strength or very low water absorption matters; Class B is the common choice below DPC and for manholes; a brick DPC course in a building needs Class A (DPC1). Your designer or building control may specify one.
In England, building work is checked against the Approved Documents, for example Part A for structure and Part L for energy efficiency, through your council's building control team or a registered building control approver.
Bricks questions
How soon can bricks be delivered in Greater London?
We confirm the delivery date when we price your order, before you commit. It depends on the product, the quantity and whether it is a stock line or made to order.
Do you sell bricks in small quantities?
We price whole packs as standard because that is how bricks leave the works. For small repairs ask anyway: we will tell you honestly whether part packs are possible for the brick you need.
Can you deliver bricks to a site with restricted access in Greater London?
Usually, yes. Tell us about the access when you ask for a price and we will plan the vehicle and offload, or say if a smaller vehicle is needed.
How much mortar do 1,000 bricks need?
Roughly half a cubic metre of mixed mortar, which is about 1 tonne of building sand and 8 to 9 bags of cement at a 1:4 mix. Our brick calculator works it out for your wall.
