Working out quantities for your Surrey job

Take a garden wall in Surrey 8 m long and 1.05 m high: 8.4 m². At 60 bricks per square metre plus 5% for cuts that is 530 bricks, roughly 2 packs of 500 depending on the maker, laid in about 0.5 tonnes of building sand and 5 bags of cement at a 1:4 mix. Try the brick calculator

Before your Surrey delivery arrives

Bricks come in strapped packs, usually on a pallet, and are lifted off by a lorry-mounted crane where the drop point allows. Our standard mainland delivery area covers Surrey.

• On busy streets in Surrey, a parking suspension or a quiet time slot can make offloading safer, so tell us about local restrictions you know of.
• Weight limits on bridges or private roads near the site matter for larger lorries, so mention any you know of.
• Have someone on site for the delivery if you can, or agree a safe drop point with us in advance.

Bricks: choosing well

Engineering Class A or B?

Class A is the denser of the two and is usually chosen where strength or very low water absorption matters; Class B is the common choice below DPC and for manholes; a brick DPC course in a building needs Class A (DPC1). Your designer or building control may specify one.

Colour consistency

Order everything for one job at the same time so the bricks come from the same production run, then mix from three or four packs as you lay to blend any variation.

In England, building work is checked against the Approved Documents, for example Part A for structure and Part L for energy efficiency, through your council's building control team or a registered building control approver.

Bricks in Surrey: questions

Can I add other materials to my Surrey delivery?

Yes. Put everything on one list, from bricks to fixings and PPE, and we will price it as one delivery where the products can travel together.

How soon can bricks be delivered in Surrey?

We confirm the delivery date when we price your order, before you commit. It depends on the product, the quantity and whether it is a stock line or made to order.

Can you match my existing bricks?

Often, yes. Send the brick name if you have it, or a daylight photo of a clean face with a tape measure for scale. We will look for the nearest match in current ranges and can usually arrange a sample before you commit to a full order.

How much mortar do 1,000 bricks need?

Roughly half a cubic metre of mixed mortar, which is about 1 tonne of building sand and 8 to 9 bags of cement at a 1:4 mix. Our brick calculator works it out for your wall.
