Estimating your bricks

Take a garden wall in Highbury 12 m long and 1.2 m high: 14.4 m². At 60 bricks per square metre plus 5% for cuts that is 908 bricks, roughly 2 packs of 500 depending on the maker, laid in about 0.85 tonnes of building sand and 8 bags of cement at a 1:4 mix. Try the brick calculator

Planning the drop in Highbury

Bricks come in strapped packs, usually on a pallet, and are lifted off by a lorry-mounted crane where the drop point allows. Highbury is inside our standard mainland delivery area.

  • On busy streets in Highbury, a parking suspension or a quiet time slot can make offloading safer, so tell us about local restrictions you know of.
  • For a phased build we can split the order so materials arrive as each stage starts, which keeps the site clear.
  • If neighbours share the access, it helps to let them know a lorry is coming.

Before you order bricks

Matching an existing house

Bring us the brick name if you know it, or a clear photo of a cleaned face in daylight with a tape measure for scale. Size matters as much as colour: older imperial bricks are often slightly larger than 65 mm.

Is the wall exposed?

For walls that will get very wet and freeze, such as parapets, copings, below DPC or free-standing garden walls, use a clay brick declared F2 (freeze-thaw resistant) and S2 (low soluble salts).

In England, building work is checked against the Approved Documents, for example Part A for structure and Part L for energy efficiency, through your council's building control team or a registered building control approver.

Questions about bricks delivery in Highbury

How many bricks are in a square metre?

With standard 215 × 65 mm bricks and 10 mm mortar joints you need about 60 bricks per square metre for a single-skin (half-brick) wall and about 120 for a one-brick-thick wall. Add around 5 percent for cuts and breakages.

Can you deliver bricks to a site with restricted access in Highbury?

Usually, yes. Tell us about the access when you ask for a price and we will plan the vehicle and offload, or say if a smaller vehicle is needed.

Which bricks go below the damp-proof course?

Below DPC you need bricks that cope with constant damp and frost: engineering bricks, or clay facings declared F2 and S2. Concrete bricks are another option for below-ground work.

How soon can bricks be delivered in Highbury?

We confirm the delivery date when we price your order, before you commit. It depends on the product, the quantity and whether it is a stock line or made to order.
