Bagged Concrete & Mortar Mixes

Bagged mixes are pre-blended dry concrete, mortar or screed that only need water, saving you batching sand, aggregate and cement on site.

For small jobs and tight sites, bagged mixes are the simplest route. We supply fence-post mix, general-purpose concrete mix, bricklaying mortar mix and screed mix, plus repair mortars.

Choosing bagged concrete and mortar

Bagged or site-mixed?

Bagged mixes cost more per cubic metre but save time, waste and space. For anything bigger than a small pad, site-mixed or ready-mixed concrete is usually better value.

Post mix quantities

Most makers say how many bags per post; it depends on the hole size.

Check the yield

Each bag states the volume it makes. Divide your volume by the yield to get the number of bags.

How it arrives on site

Bags come on a pallet or with a mixed load. We agree the drop point and offload method when we price your order. Read more about how delivery works.

How much do you need?

Setting 10 fence posts usually takes 10 to 20 bags of 20 kg post mix, depending on the hole size printed on the bag. For a base bigger than about half a cubic metre, all-in ballast and cement are usually better value. Compare with site-mixed concrete

Bagged Concrete & Mortar Mixes: questions

How many bags of post mix per post?

Usually one or two 20 kg bags per standard fence post, depending on the hole size. The bag will state the recommended amount.

Is bagged concrete strong enough for a shed base?

For a small base it can be. Follow the bag's guidance on depth and the shed maker's base requirements.

How much does one bag of concrete make?

The yield is on the bag. As a rough guide a 20 to 25 kg bag makes about 0.01 cubic metres of concrete.

When should I use ready-mixed concrete instead?

Once you need more than about half a cubic metre, mixing from bags gets slow and costly; ballast and cement or ready-mixed concrete usually make more sense.

Do you sell mortar in bags?

Yes, pre-blended mortar mix for small jobs.
