Cement & Aggregates
Cement
Cement is the grey powder that binds sand and aggregate into mortar and concrete; in the UK it is mostly sold as general-purpose Portland cement in 25 kg bags.
We supply bagged cement for mortar, concrete, render and screeds, plus white cement, rapid-set cement and mortar plasticiser. Bags travel on a pallet or with a mixed load, and we price full pallets where the quantity makes sense.

Choosing cement
How much cement do I need?
Work from the mix: a 1:4 mortar or a 1:5 concrete mix tells you the share of cement. Our calculators turn wall or slab sizes into bags.
Storage
Cement goes off if it gets damp. Keep bags on a pallet, covered and off the ground, and order what you will use within its shelf life.
Working in cold weather
Mortar and concrete should not be laid when temperatures are near freezing. Protect fresh work from frost.
How it arrives on site
Bags come on a shrink-wrapped pallet or as part of a mixed load; keep them covered once dropped. We agree the drop point and offload method when we price your order. Read more about how delivery works.
How much do you need?
Laying 2,000 bricks at a 1:4 mix takes about 17 bags of 25 kg cement and 1.87 tonnes of building sand. Try the mortar calculator
Cement: questions
How many bags of cement for 1,000 bricks?
At a 1:4 mortar mix, about 8 to 9 bags of 25 kg cement and roughly 1 tonne of building sand, allowing for waste.
How many bags of cement in a cubic metre of concrete?
For a 1:5 cement to all-in ballast mix, roughly 15 bags of 25 kg cement per cubic metre. Our concrete calculator gives the full list.
How long does cement keep?
Bagged cement has a use-by date printed on the bag; it lasts only if it is kept completely dry.
What is the difference between cement and concrete?
Cement is the binder. Concrete is cement mixed with sand, aggregate and water.
Do you sell cement by the pallet?
Yes. Full pallets make sense for bigger jobs; for smaller quantities bags travel with the rest of your order.
