Getting bricks onto your Essex site
Bricks come in strapped packs, usually on a pallet, and are lifted off by a lorry-mounted crane where the drop point allows. Our standard mainland delivery area covers Essex.
- Clear a level area for pallets, ideally on boards, so materials stay out of standing water.
- Mention any overhead cables, low branches or narrow gateways, because they decide whether a crane offload is possible.
- Tell us the best drop point, such as a driveway, front garden or the kerb, and whether a lorry can park close to it.
Getting the right bricks
Engineering Class A or B?
Class A is the denser of the two and is usually chosen where strength or very low water absorption matters; Class B is the common choice below DPC and for manholes; a brick DPC course in a building needs Class A (DPC1). Your designer or building control may specify one.
Matching an existing house
Bring us the brick name if you know it, or a clear photo of a cleaned face in daylight with a tape measure for scale. Size matters as much as colour: older imperial bricks are often slightly larger than 65 mm.
In England, building work is checked against the Approved Documents, for example Part A for structure and Part L for energy efficiency, through your council's building control team or a registered building control approver.
Your questions answered
Is there a minimum order for delivery to Essex?
There is no fixed minimum. For very small orders we will tell you honestly if the delivery cost outweighs the materials, so you can decide.
Do you deliver bricks to Essex?
Yes. We deliver across Essex, including SS, CO, CM, RM, EN. Our standard mainland delivery area covers Essex. Send your list or call 0800 088 6341 and we will price it delivered to your postcode.
How are bricks delivered?
In strapped packs on a flatbed lorry, normally unloaded by the lorry's crane. Tell us where the packs can go and whether there are overhead cables, low branches or soft ground.
Which bricks go below the damp-proof course?
Below DPC you need bricks that cope with constant damp and frost: engineering bricks, or clay facings declared F2 and S2. Concrete bricks are another option for below-ground work.
