Choosing screws and nails

Inside or outside?

Use galvanised, coated or stainless fixings outdoors and with treated timber, so they do not corrode.

Length

A rule of thumb is a fixing at least two and a half times the thickness of the piece you are fixing.

Structural fixings

Joist hangers, straps and structural connections need the fixings the connector maker specifies.

How it arrives on site

Boxed fixings travel with the rest of your order. We agree the drop point and offload method when we price your order. Read more about how delivery works.

How much do you need?

Fixing 20 sheets of plasterboard at about 35 screws a sheet uses 700 drywall screws, or 1 box of 1,000.
