How delivery works in Dumfries and Galloway

Boards are light but bulky; they travel in wrapped packs and should be stored flat and dry. Our standard mainland delivery area covers Dumfries and Galloway.

• On busy streets in Dumfries and Galloway, a parking suspension or a quiet time slot can make offloading safer, so tell us about local restrictions you know of.
• Have someone on site for the delivery if you can, or agree a safe drop point with us in advance.
• Clear a level area for pallets, ideally on boards, so materials stay out of standing water.

Picking the right product

Fire considerations

PIR is a combustible product. Building regulations restrict combustible materials in some situations, such as external walls of taller buildings; check what applies.

Thickness for the U-value

The thickness you need depends on the U-value the building regulations require and the rest of the build-up. Manufacturers publish U-value tables; your designer or the council's building standards service will confirm.

In Scotland most building work needs a building warrant from the local authority, assessed against the Building Standards Technical Handbooks.

Ordering PIR insulation boards for Dumfries and Galloway: FAQs

Can you deliver PIR insulation boards to a site with restricted access in Dumfries and Galloway?

Usually, yes. Tell us about the access when you ask for a price and we will plan the vehicle and offload, or say if a smaller vehicle is needed.

What is the foil for?

The foil facing reflects heat, protects the foam and, when joints are taped, can act as a vapour control layer.

Is PIR better than mineral wool?

PIR insulates more per millimetre, so it suits tight spaces. Mineral wool is non-combustible, cheaper per square metre and better for sound.
