Getting MOT Type 1 onto your Dumfries and Galloway site
Bulk bags are usually crane-offloaded where access allows; very large quantities can be priced as loose tipped loads where access allows. Our standard mainland delivery area covers Dumfries and Galloway.
- Clear a level area for pallets, ideally on boards, so materials stay out of standing water.
- If neighbours share the access, it helps to let them know a lorry is coming.
- If the site is up a shared drive or behind other houses, tell us the distance from the road.
Getting the right MOT Type 1
Compaction
Lay and compact in layers with a plate compactor. Allow extra material because it compacts down.
Virgin or recycled?
Recycled Type 1 can be a good option where it meets the specification; ask what your project or local authority requires.
MOT Type 1 Sub-base in Dumfries and Galloway: questions
How much MOT Type 1 do I need?
Multiply the area by the compacted depth to get cubic metres, then allow about 2.1 to 2.2 tonnes per cubic metre. At 100 mm deep, a tonne covers roughly 4.5 square metres.
Is there a minimum order for delivery to Dumfries and Galloway?
There is no fixed minimum. For very small orders we will tell you honestly if the delivery cost outweighs the materials, so you can decide.
How deep should a driveway sub-base be?
Around 150 mm of compacted MOT Type 1 is common for domestic drives on firm ground; soft ground or heavier vehicles need more. Follow your installer or the paving maker's guidance.
Can you deliver MOT Type 1 to a site with restricted access in Dumfries and Galloway?
Usually, yes. Tell us about the access when you ask for a price and we will plan the vehicle and offload, or say if a smaller vehicle is needed.
