Before your Elgin delivery arrives
Bulk bags are usually crane-offloaded where access allows; very large quantities can be priced as loose tipped loads where access allows. Elgin is in an area where deliveries are priced individually because of the distance and access, so we quote each order separately.
- Deliveries are to the kerb, drive or within crane reach; ask if materials need to go further.
- If the drop point is block paving or soft ground, say so; heavy pallets and bulk bags can mark or sink.
- Pallets left on a pavement can block the footway, so plan a drop point inside your boundary where you can.
Quantities: a worked example
A 10 × 5 m area at 100 mm compacted is 5 m³. At about 2.1 tonnes per cubic metre plus 10% that is 11.6 tonnes, or around 14 bulk bags. Try the sub-base calculator

Compaction
Lay and compact in layers with a plate compactor. Allow extra material because it compacts down.
How deep?
Patios and paths commonly use around 100 mm of compacted sub-base, and domestic driveways around 150 mm or more. Soft ground or heavier vehicles need more; your designer or installer will confirm.
Your questions answered
Do you deliver MOT Type 1 to trades and homeowners in Elgin?
Both. Trades can apply for a trade account; homeowners and self-builders can order on a delivered quote.
Can you tip it loose?
For larger quantities we can price a loose tipped load if the lorry can reach and there is space to tip.
Can I add other materials to my Elgin delivery?
Yes. Put everything on one list, from MOT Type 1 to fixings and PPE, and we will price it as one delivery where the products can travel together.
How much MOT Type 1 do I need?
Multiply the area by the compacted depth to get cubic metres, then allow about 2.1 to 2.2 tonnes per cubic metre. At 100 mm deep, a tonne covers roughly 4.5 square metres.
