Before your Sale delivery arrives

Bulk bags are usually lifted off by crane where access allows; tell us where they can sit and whether the ground is firm. Sale is inside our standard mainland delivery area.

• Pallets left on a pavement can block the footway, so plan a drop point inside your boundary where you can.
• Have someone on site for the delivery if you can, or agree a safe drop point with us in advance.
• If neighbours share the access, it helps to let them know a lorry is coming.

Ballast or separate sand and gravel?

All-in ballast is convenient for general concrete. For more control over the mix, use separate sharp sand and gravel.

Working out quantities for your Sale job

A base 3.6 × 2.4 m and 100 mm deep is 0.86 m³ of concrete. At 1:5 with 5% extra that is about 1.98 tonnes of all-in ballast and 14 bags of cement. Try the concrete calculator

Your questions answered

Is there a minimum order for delivery to Sale?

There is no fixed minimum. For very small orders we will tell you honestly if the delivery cost outweighs the materials, so you can decide.

What gravel do I bed drainage pipes in?

Pea gravel or a similar clean single-size gravel is commonly used around underground pipes.

Do you deliver ballast and gravel to Sale?

Yes. We deliver across Sale, including M33, M32, WA15, M41. Sale is inside our standard mainland delivery area. Send your list or call 0800 088 6341 and we will price it delivered to your postcode.

How much ballast for a cubic metre of concrete?

Roughly 2 to 2.2 tonnes of all-in ballast with about 15 bags of cement at a 1:5 mix. Our concrete calculator works out your slab or footing.
