Getting planed timber onto your Sale site

Finished timber is protected and handled with care; tell us if it needs to go inside out of the weather. Sale is inside our standard mainland delivery area.

• If neighbours share the access, it helps to let them know a lorry is coming.
• For a phased build we can split the order so materials arrive as each stage starts, which keeps the site clear.
• On busy streets in Sale, a parking suspension or a quiet time slot can make offloading safer, so tell us about local restrictions you know of.

A quick quantity check

A 3.4 × 4.6 m room with one door has about 15.2 m of wall to skirt. With 10% for joints and offcuts that is 16.7 m, or 4 lengths of 4.2 m skirting, plus architrave for each side of the door.

Softwood or MDF trim?

MDF skirting and architrave is very straight and paints well; softwood takes knocks better and can be stained.

Nominal versus finished size

Planing takes material off, so a timber sold as 'nominal' 2 × 4 finishes smaller. Always check finished sizes when you need an exact fit.

Can I add other materials to my Sale delivery?

Yes. Put everything on one list, from planed timber to fixings and PPE, and we will price it as one delivery where the products can travel together.

Can you match an old skirting profile?

We can look for the closest current profile. Exact matches for old or bespoke profiles may need machining to order.

Why is my 2 × 4 smaller than 2 × 4 inches?

Timber is often named by its sawn size before planing. Once planed, it finishes smaller, so a nominal 2 × 4 is roughly 44 × 94 mm or less.

How soon can planed timber be delivered in Sale?

We confirm the delivery date when we price your order, before you commit. It depends on the product, the quantity and whether it is a stock line or made to order.
