Delivering bricks in Sale
Bricks come in strapped packs, usually on a pallet, and are lifted off by a lorry-mounted crane where the drop point allows. Sale is inside our standard mainland delivery area.
- If neighbours share the access, it helps to let them know a lorry is coming.
- Tell us the best drop point, such as a driveway, front garden or the kerb, and whether a lorry can park close to it.
- With roughly 7h 29m of daylight in Sale around the shortest day, morning deliveries leave more working light for the job.
Choosing bricks
Is the wall exposed?
For walls that will get very wet and freeze, such as parapets, copings, below DPC or free-standing garden walls, use a clay brick declared F2 (freeze-thaw resistant) and S2 (low soluble salts).
Engineering Class A or B?
Class A is the denser of the two and is usually chosen where strength or very low water absorption matters; Class B is the common choice below DPC and for manholes; a brick DPC course in a building needs Class A (DPC1). Your designer or building control may specify one.
In England, building work is checked against the Approved Documents, for example Part A for structure and Part L for energy efficiency, through your council's building control team or a registered building control approver.
Estimating your bricks
Take a garden wall in Sale 4 m long and 1.8 m high: 7.2 m². At 60 bricks per square metre plus 5% for cuts that is 454 bricks, roughly 1 pack of 500 depending on the maker, laid in about 0.43 tonnes of building sand and 4 bags of cement at a 1:4 mix. Try the brick calculator
Questions about bricks delivery in Sale
Do you sell bricks in small quantities?
We price whole packs as standard because that is how bricks leave the works. For small repairs ask anyway: we will tell you honestly whether part packs are possible for the brick you need.
Can you deliver bricks to a site with restricted access in Sale?
Usually, yes. Tell us about the access when you ask for a price and we will plan the vehicle and offload, or say if a smaller vehicle is needed.
Which bricks go below the damp-proof course?
Below DPC you need bricks that cope with constant damp and frost: engineering bricks, or clay facings declared F2 and S2. Concrete bricks are another option for below-ground work.
How soon can bricks be delivered in Sale?
We confirm the delivery date when we price your order, before you commit. It depends on the product, the quantity and whether it is a stock line or made to order.
