Sizing your order

A 3 × 3.2 m room with one door has about 11.6 m of wall to skirt. With 10% for joints and offcuts that is 12.8 m, or 4 lengths of 4.2 m skirting, plus architrave for each side of the door.

Getting the right planed timber

Nominal versus finished size

Planing takes material off, so a timber sold as 'nominal' 2 × 4 finishes smaller. Always check finished sizes when you need an exact fit.

Softwood or MDF trim?

MDF skirting and architrave is very straight and paints well; softwood takes knocks better and can be stained.

Getting planed timber onto your Ebbw Vale site

Finished timber is protected and handled with care; tell us if it needs to go inside out of the weather. Ebbw Vale is inside our standard mainland delivery area.

• Pallets left on a pavement can block the footway, so plan a drop point inside your boundary where you can.
• In summer Ebbw Vale gets around 16h 41m of daylight, but early deliveries still beat the traffic and give the longest working day.
• On busy streets in Ebbw Vale, a parking suspension or a quiet time slot can make offloading safer, so tell us about local restrictions you know of.
