Getting the right planed timber

Matching old profiles

Bring an offcut or a clear profile photo with measurements and we will look for the closest current profile.

Nominal versus finished size

Planing takes material off, so a timber sold as 'nominal' 2 × 4 finishes smaller. Always check finished sizes when you need an exact fit.

Delivery to Risca: what helps

Finished timber is protected and handled with care; tell us if it needs to go inside out of the weather. Risca is inside our standard mainland delivery area.

• Keep cement, plaster and boards dry: have a tarpaulin or a garage space ready before they arrive.
• In summer Risca gets around 16h 40m of daylight, but early deliveries still beat the traffic and give the longest working day.
• With roughly 7h 48m of daylight in Risca around the shortest day, morning deliveries leave more working light for the job.

Sizing your order

A 3 × 3.6 m room with one door has about 12.4 m of wall to skirt. With 10% for joints and offcuts that is 13.6 m, or 4 lengths of 4.2 m skirting, plus architrave for each side of the door.

Do you deliver planed timber to trades and homeowners in Risca?

Both. Trades can apply for a trade account; homeowners and self-builders can order on a delivered quote.

Why is my 2 × 4 smaller than 2 × 4 inches?

Timber is often named by its sawn size before planing. Once planed, it finishes smaller, so a nominal 2 × 4 is roughly 44 × 94 mm or less.

What does PAR mean?

Planed all round: the timber has been machined smooth on all four faces.

How soon can planed timber be delivered in Risca?

We confirm the delivery date when we price your order, before you commit. It depends on the product, the quantity and whether it is a stock line or made to order.
