PIR Insulation Boards: choosing well

Fire considerations

PIR is a combustible product. Building regulations restrict combustible materials in some situations, such as external walls of taller buildings; check what applies.

Sealing joints

Tape the joints with foil tape so the foil layer works as a continuous vapour control layer where the design relies on it.

In England, building work is checked against the Approved Documents, for example Part A for structure and Part L for energy efficiency, through your council's building control team or a registered building control approver.

How much will you need?

Insulating 12 m² of rafters, floor or wall takes 5 boards of 2400 × 1200 mm including offcuts. The thickness depends on the U-value you need, so check it before you order. Try the insulation calculator

How delivery works in Stourbridge

Boards are light but bulky; they travel in wrapped packs and should be stored flat and dry. Stourbridge is inside our standard mainland delivery area.

  • In summer Stourbridge gets around 16h 49m of daylight, but early deliveries still beat the traffic and give the longest working day.
  • If the drop point is block paving or soft ground, say so; heavy pallets and bulk bags can mark or sink.
  • Deliveries are to the kerb, drive or within crane reach; ask if materials need to go further.

Common questions from Stourbridge

Do you deliver PIR insulation boards to trades and homeowners in Stourbridge?

Both. Trades can apply for a trade account; homeowners and self-builders can order on a delivered quote.

How many PIR boards do I need?

Divide the area by 2.88 m² (one 2400 × 1200 board) and add about 5 to 10 percent for cutting.

What is the foil for?

The foil facing reflects heat, protects the foam and, when joints are taped, can act as a vapour control layer.

Is there a minimum order for delivery to Stourbridge?

There is no fixed minimum. For very small orders we will tell you honestly if the delivery cost outweighs the materials, so you can decide.
