Virgin or recycled?

Recycled Type 1 can be a good option where it meets the specification; ask what your project or local authority requires.

Compaction

Lay and compact in layers with a plate compactor. Allow extra material because it compacts down.

A quick quantity check

A 5 × 3 m area at 150 mm compacted is 2.25 m³. At about 2.1 tonnes per cubic metre plus 10% that is 5.2 tonnes, or around 7 bulk bags. Try the sub-base calculator
