Compaction
Lay and compact in layers with a plate compactor. Allow extra material because it compacts down.
How deep?
Patios and paths commonly use around 100 mm of compacted sub-base, and domestic driveways around 150 mm or more. Soft ground or heavier vehicles need more; your designer or installer will confirm.
Delivery to Airdrie: what helps
Bulk bags are usually crane-offloaded where access allows; very large quantities can be priced as loose tipped loads where access allows. Airdrie is inside our standard mainland delivery area.
- With roughly 6h 59m of daylight in Airdrie around the shortest day, morning deliveries leave more working light for the job.
- Tell us the best drop point, such as a driveway, front garden or the kerb, and whether a lorry can park close to it.
- If the drop point is block paving or soft ground, say so; heavy pallets and bulk bags can mark or sink.
Sizing your order
A 10 × 3 m area at 150 mm compacted is 4.5 m³. At about 2.1 tonnes per cubic metre plus 10% that is 10.4 tonnes, or around 13 bulk bags. Try the sub-base calculator
Your questions answered
How soon can MOT Type 1 be delivered in Airdrie?
We confirm the delivery date when we price your order, before you commit. It depends on the product, the quantity and whether it is a stock line or made to order.
Can you tip it loose?
For larger quantities we can price a loose tipped load if the lorry can reach and there is space to tip.
What is the difference between Type 1 and scalpings?
Type 1 is graded to a specification so it compacts into a strong, stable layer. Scalpings are less controlled and suit less demanding areas.
Can you deliver MOT Type 1 to a site with restricted access in Airdrie?
Usually, yes. Tell us about the access when you ask for a price and we will plan the vehicle and offload, or say if a smaller vehicle is needed.
