Choosing MOT Type 1
How deep?
Patios and paths commonly use around 100 mm of compacted sub-base, and domestic driveways around 150 mm or more. Soft ground or heavier vehicles need more; your designer or installer will confirm.
Compaction
Lay and compact in layers with a plate compactor. Allow extra material because it compacts down.
Sizing your order
A 6 × 3 m area at 150 mm compacted is 2.7 m³. At about 2.1 tonnes per cubic metre plus 10% that is 6.2 tonnes, or around 8 bulk bags. Try the sub-base calculator

- Mention any overhead cables, low branches or narrow gateways, because they decide whether a crane offload is possible.
Ordering MOT Type 1 for Coatbridge: FAQs
How deep should a driveway sub-base be?
Around 150 mm of compacted MOT Type 1 is common for domestic drives on firm ground; soft ground or heavier vehicles need more. Follow your installer or the paving maker's guidance.
Do you deliver MOT Type 1 to trades and homeowners in Coatbridge?
Both. Trades can apply for a trade account; homeowners and self-builders can order on a delivered quote.
What is the difference between Type 1 and scalpings?
Type 1 is graded to a specification so it compacts into a strong, stable layer. Scalpings are less controlled and suit less demanding areas.
Is there a minimum order for delivery to Coatbridge?
There is no fixed minimum. For very small orders we will tell you honestly if the delivery cost outweighs the materials, so you can decide.
