Things to check before you order

How much for a loft?

The common recommendation is 270 mm in total: usually 100 mm between the joists and 170 mm across them. Check the depth already there.

Glass or stone wool?

Glass wool rolls are light and economical for lofts. Stone wool slabs are denser and often chosen for acoustics and fire stopping.

In England, building work is checked against the Approved Documents, for example Part A for structure and Part L for energy efficiency, through your council's building control team or a registered building control approver.

Sizing your order

A 10 × 7 m loft (70 m²) insulated from scratch to 270 mm needs about 9 rolls of 100 mm and 15 rolls of 170 mm, using typical roll coverage; coverage varies by brand. Try the insulation calculator

Before your York delivery arrives

Rolls are compressed and wrapped; they are light but take up space, so tell us if storage is tight. York is inside our standard mainland delivery area.

• On busy streets in York, a parking suspension or a quiet time slot can make offloading safer, so tell us about local restrictions you know of.
• Clear a level area for pallets, ideally on boards, so materials stay out of standing water.
• Pallets left on a pavement can block the footway, so plan a drop point inside your boundary where you can.
