Picking the right product

Glass or stone wool?

Glass wool rolls are light and economical for lofts. Stone wool slabs are denser and often chosen for acoustics and fire stopping.

How much for a loft?

The common recommendation is 270 mm in total: usually 100 mm between the joists and 170 mm across them. Check the depth already there.

In England, building work is checked against the Approved Documents, for example Part A for structure and Part L for energy efficiency, through your council's building control team or a registered building control approver.

Planning the drop in Thamesmead

Rolls are compressed and wrapped; they are light but take up space, so tell us if storage is tight. Thamesmead is inside our standard mainland delivery area.

  • Clear a level area for pallets, ideally on boards, so materials stay out of standing water.
  • For a phased build we can split the order so materials arrive as each stage starts, which keeps the site clear.
  • In summer Thamesmead gets around 16h 38m of daylight, but early deliveries still beat the traffic and give the longest working day.

Your questions answered

Do I need protective gear?

Wear gloves, long sleeves and a dust mask when handling mineral wool, as it can irritate skin and eyes.

Is there a minimum order for delivery to Thamesmead?

There is no fixed minimum. For very small orders we will tell you honestly if the delivery cost outweighs the materials, so you can decide.
