Steel & Concrete Lintels delivered across Hertfordshire

A lintel is a beam that carries the masonry over a door or window opening; most UK houses use galvanised steel cavity lintels or prestressed concrete lintels.

Builders, trades and self-builders in Hertfordshire can order lintels for delivery to Watford, Berkhamsted and the towns in between.

How much will you need?

For a 2,100 mm clear opening, add at least 150 mm of bearing at each end: the lintel needs to be at least 2,400 mm long. Then pick the type for the wall build-up and check the load in the manufacturer's table, or ask your engineer if the opening carries a floor or roof.

Delivery to Hertfordshire: what helps

Lintels are long, so tell us about tight access. Shorter lintels can travel with a mixed load; long steel lintels are handled by hand or crane. Our standard mainland delivery area covers Hertfordshire.

  • Clear a level area for pallets, ideally on boards, so materials stay out of standing water.
  • Pallets left on a pavement can block the footway, so plan a drop point inside your boundary where you can.
  • Mention any overhead cables, low branches or narrow gateways, because they decide whether a crane offload is possible.

Before you order lintels

Which lintel for my opening?

Measure the clear opening, add the end bearing each side, and note the wall type (cavity width, inner and outer leaf) and what sits above. Manufacturers publish load tables; for anything carrying a floor, roof or point load get an engineer or building control to confirm.

Do I need a cavity tray?

Over openings in cavity walls, water in the cavity has to be directed outwards. Many steel lintels need a separate cavity tray and stop ends; check the lintel maker's detail.

In England, building work is checked against the Approved Documents, for example Part A for structure and Part L for energy efficiency, through your council's building control team or a registered building control approver.

Ordering lintels for Hertfordshire: FAQs

How soon can lintels be delivered in Hertfordshire?

We confirm the delivery date when we price your order, before you commit. It depends on the product, the quantity and whether it is a stock line or made to order.

Can you deliver lintels to a site with restricted access in Hertfordshire?

Usually, yes. Tell us about the access when you ask for a price and we will plan the vehicle and offload, or say if a smaller vehicle is needed.

How long should a lintel be?

The clear opening plus the end bearing at each side, typically at least 150 mm per end. Check the manufacturer's table for your lintel.

Can lintels be delivered with my blocks?

Yes. We combine them on one lorry where the lengths and the route allow.
