Steel & Concrete Lintels delivery in Essex

A lintel is a beam that carries the masonry over a door or window opening; most UK houses use galvanised steel cavity lintels or prestressed concrete lintels.

Across Essex, from Southend-on-Sea to Harwich, we supply lintels delivered to site with the price and date confirmed in writing.

A quick quantity check

For a 900 mm clear opening, add at least 150 mm of bearing at each end: the lintel needs to be at least 1,200 mm long. Then pick the type for the wall build-up and check the load in the manufacturer's table, or ask your engineer if the opening carries a floor or roof.

How delivery works in Essex

Lintels are long, so tell us about tight access. Shorter lintels can travel with a mixed load; long steel lintels are handled by hand or crane. Our standard mainland delivery area covers Essex.

  • Have someone on site for the delivery if you can, or agree a safe drop point with us in advance.
  • Weight limits on bridges or private roads near the site matter for larger lorries, so mention any you know of.
  • Clear a level area for pallets, ideally on boards, so materials stay out of standing water.

Things to check before you order

Do I need a cavity tray?

Over openings in cavity walls, water in the cavity has to be directed outwards. Many steel lintels need a separate cavity tray and stop ends; check the lintel maker's detail.

Steel or concrete?

Steel cavity lintels support both leaves and include insulation to limit cold bridging. Concrete lintels are simple and robust for single leaves and internal walls.

In England, building work is checked against the Approved Documents, for example Part A for structure and Part L for energy efficiency, through your council's building control team or a registered building control approver.

Ordering lintels for Essex: FAQs

Do you deliver lintels to trades and homeowners in Essex?

Both. Trades can apply for a trade account; homeowners and self-builders can order on a delivered quote.

How soon can lintels be delivered in Essex?

We confirm the delivery date when we price your order, before you commit. It depends on the product, the quantity and whether it is a stock line or made to order.

How long should a lintel be?

The clear opening plus the end bearing at each side, typically at least 150 mm per end. Check the manufacturer's table for your lintel.

What is a padstone for?

It spreads a concentrated load, such as the end of a beam, over a larger area of masonry so the blocks or bricks underneath are not crushed.
