Steel & Concrete Lintels delivery in Waltham Abbey

A lintel is a beam that carries the masonry over a door or window opening; most UK houses use galvanised steel cavity lintels or prestressed concrete lintels.

Whether it is a repair, an extension or a new build in Waltham Abbey, we can supply the lintels and deliver to site.

Planning the drop in Waltham Abbey

Lintels are long, so tell us about tight access. Shorter lintels can travel with a mixed load; long steel lintels are handled by hand or crane. Waltham Abbey is inside our standard mainland delivery area.

  • If the site is up a shared drive or behind other houses, tell us the distance from the road.
  • Have someone on site for the delivery if you can, or agree a safe drop point with us in advance.
  • Mention any overhead cables, low branches or narrow gateways, because they decide whether a crane offload is possible.

How much will you need?

For a 900 mm clear opening, add at least 150 mm of bearing at each end: the lintel needs to be at least 1,200 mm long. Then pick the type for the wall build-up and check the load in the manufacturer's table, or ask your engineer if the opening carries a floor or roof.

Before you order lintels

Do I need a cavity tray?

Over openings in cavity walls, water in the cavity has to be directed outwards. Many steel lintels need a separate cavity tray and stop ends; check the lintel maker's detail.

Steel or concrete?

Steel cavity lintels support both leaves and include insulation to limit cold bridging. Concrete lintels are simple and robust for single leaves and internal walls.

In England, building work is checked against the Approved Documents, for example Part A for structure and Part L for energy efficiency, through your council's building control team or a registered building control approver.

Steel & Concrete Lintels questions

Are steel lintels insulated?

Cavity wall steel lintels usually have insulation inside to cut heat loss at the opening. Single-leaf and box lintels may not.

Can you deliver lintels to a site with restricted access in Waltham Abbey?

Usually, yes. Tell us about the access when you ask for a price and we will plan the vehicle and offload, or say if a smaller vehicle is needed.

Do you deliver lintels to trades and homeowners in Waltham Abbey?

Both. Trades can apply for a trade account; homeowners and self-builders can order on a delivered quote.

Can lintels be delivered with my blocks?

Yes. We combine them on one lorry where the lengths and the route allow.
