Steel & Concrete Lintels delivery in Ayr

A lintel is a beam that carries the masonry over a door or window opening; most UK houses use galvanised steel cavity lintels or prestressed concrete lintels.

We deliver lintels to sites, driveways and yards across Ayr, from a single pallet for a small job to full loads for bigger builds.

  • Heavy-duty and extra-heavy lintelsFor openings carrying floors or a lot of masonry.
  • Steel cavity wall lintelsInsulated galvanised lintels that support both leaves of a cavity wall.
  • Cavity trays and stop endsTo shed water out of the cavity over openings.
  • PadstonesConcrete pads that spread the load at the ends of beams and lintels.

Estimating your lintels

For a 1,200 mm clear opening, add at least 150 mm of bearing at each end: the lintel needs to be at least 1,500 mm long. Then pick the type for the wall build-up and check the load in the manufacturer's table, or ask your engineer if the opening carries a floor or roof.

Choosing lintels

Steel or concrete?

Steel cavity lintels support both leaves and include insulation to limit cold bridging. Concrete lintels are simple and robust for single leaves and internal walls.

Which lintel for my opening?

Measure the clear opening, add the end bearing each side, and note the wall type (cavity width, inner and outer leaf) and what sits above. Manufacturers publish load tables; for anything carrying a floor, roof or point load get an engineer or the council's building standards service to confirm.

In Scotland most building work needs a building warrant from the local authority, assessed against the Building Standards Technical Handbooks.

Getting lintels onto your Ayr site

Lintels are long, so tell us about tight access. Shorter lintels can travel with a mixed load; long steel lintels are handled by hand or crane. Ayr is inside our standard mainland delivery area.

  • Give us the full postcode for the drop point; deliveries around KA7 are priced to the exact address.
  • Tell us the best drop point, such as a driveway, front garden or the kerb, and whether a lorry can park close to it.
  • Keep cement, plaster and boards dry: have a tarpaulin or a garage space ready before they arrive.

Ordering lintels for Ayr: FAQs

Do you deliver lintels to trades and homeowners in Ayr?

Both. Trades can apply for a trade account; homeowners and self-builders can order on a delivered quote.

Can lintels be delivered with my blocks?

Yes. We combine them on one lorry where the lengths and the route allow.

Do I need a building warrant for a new lintel?

Making or widening an opening in a loadbearing wall is structural work, so in most cases yes. The council's building standards service or an engineer will confirm the lintel.

Can I add other materials to my Ayr delivery?

Yes. Put everything on one list, from lintels to fixings and PPE, and we will price it as one delivery where the products can travel together.
