Steel & Concrete Lintels for sites in Ayrshire

A lintel is a beam that carries the masonry over a door or window opening; most UK houses use galvanised steel cavity lintels or prestressed concrete lintels.

SK Trade delivers lintels across Ayrshire, including Kilmarnock, Ayr, Irvine and Kilwinning, priced to your postcode before you order.

How much will you need?

For a 3,000 mm clear opening, add at least 150 mm of bearing at each end: the lintel needs to be at least 3,300 mm long. Then pick the type for the wall build-up and check the load in the manufacturer's table, or ask your engineer if the opening carries a floor or roof.

Getting lintels onto your Ayrshire site

Lintels are long, so tell us about tight access. Shorter lintels can travel with a mixed load; long steel lintels are handled by hand or crane. Our standard mainland delivery area covers Ayrshire.

  • If neighbours share the access, it helps to let them know a lorry is coming.
  • Tell us the best drop point, such as a driveway, front garden or the kerb, and whether a lorry can park close to it.
  • If the site is up a shared drive or behind other houses, tell us the distance from the road.

Picking the right product

Which lintel for my opening?

Measure the clear opening, add the end bearing each side, and note the wall type (cavity width, inner and outer leaf) and what sits above. Manufacturers publish load tables; for anything carrying a floor, roof or point load get an engineer or the council's building standards service to confirm.

Steel or concrete?

Steel cavity lintels support both leaves and include insulation to limit cold bridging. Concrete lintels are simple and robust for single leaves and internal walls.

In Scotland most building work needs a building warrant from the local authority, assessed against the Building Standards Technical Handbooks.

Ordering lintels for Ayrshire: FAQs

Can lintels be delivered with my blocks?

Yes. We combine them on one lorry where the lengths and the route allow.

Do you deliver lintels to trades and homeowners in Ayrshire?

Both. Trades can apply for a trade account; homeowners and self-builders can order on a delivered quote.

Are steel lintels insulated?

Cavity wall steel lintels usually have insulation inside to cut heat loss at the opening. Single-leaf and box lintels may not.

Is there a minimum order for delivery to Ayrshire?

There is no fixed minimum. For very small orders we will tell you honestly if the delivery cost outweighs the materials, so you can decide.
