Concrete & Aircrete Blocks delivery in Tyne and Wear

Concrete blocks are large masonry units, normally 440 × 215 mm on face, that lay at about 10 blocks per square metre; they come as dense aggregate, lightweight aggregate or aircrete (aerated) blocks.

Builders, trades and self-builders in Tyne and Wear can order concrete blocks for delivery to Newcastle upon Tyne, Hebburn and the towns in between.

Estimating your concrete blocks

A single-skin block wall in Tyne and Wear 6 m long and 2.4 m high is 14.4 m². At 10 blocks per square metre plus 5% you need 152 blocks, with about 0.21 tonnes of building sand and 2 bags of cement for the mortar at 1:4. Try the block calculator

Planning the drop in Tyne and Wear

Blocks are banded on pallets and usually crane-offloaded where the vehicle and access allow; tell us the weight limit of any drive or the ground where pallets will sit. Our standard mainland delivery area covers Tyne and Wear.

  • If neighbours share the access, it helps to let them know a lorry is coming.
  • If the drop point is block paving or soft ground, say so; heavy pallets and bulk bags can mark or sink.
  • Tell us the best drop point, such as a driveway, front garden or the kerb, and whether a lorry can park close to it.

Concrete & Aircrete Blocks: choosing well

Thickness

100 mm is the common inner-leaf thickness. Wider blocks (140, 190, 215 mm) are used for separating walls, single-skin garage walls and foundations.

Dense or aircrete?

Dense blocks are strong and good for sound separation but heavy; a 100 mm dense block can weigh around 20 kg. Aircrete blocks are much lighter and insulate better, which helps with energy targets, but need the right fixings.

In England, building work is checked against the Approved Documents, for example Part A for structure and Part L for energy efficiency, through your council's building control team or a registered building control approver.

Questions about concrete blocks delivery in Tyne and Wear

How heavy is a concrete block?

It depends on the type and thickness. A 100 mm dense block is roughly 18 to 20 kg, a lightweight block noticeably less, and an aircrete block much less again.

Is there a minimum order for delivery to Tyne and Wear?

There is no fixed minimum. For very small orders we will tell you honestly if the delivery cost outweighs the materials, so you can decide.

What is the difference between 3.6 and 7.3 N/mm² blocks?

The number is the compressive strength. 7.3 N/mm² blocks carry more load and are often specified below ground or for heavily loaded walls; 3.6 N/mm² is common for upper storeys and partitions. Follow your drawings.
