Estimating your sand

Getting sand onto your Surrey site
Bulk bags are usually crane-lifted onto a drive or kerb where the vehicle and access allow; small bags travel with a mixed load. Our standard mainland delivery area covers Surrey.
- If the site is up a shared drive or behind other houses, tell us the distance from the road.
- Pallets left on a pavement can block the footway, so plan a drop point inside your boundary where you can.
- Keep cement, plaster and boards dry: have a tarpaulin or a garage space ready before they arrive.
Getting the right sand
Soft or sharp?
Use soft building sand for mortar because it gives a smooth, sticky mix. Use sharp sand where strength and drainage matter: screeds, concrete and paving beds.
Colour of mortar
Building sand colour changes the mortar colour. For matching existing joints, a sample is worth it.
Your questions answered
Can you deliver sand to a site with restricted access in Surrey?
Usually, yes. Tell us about the access when you ask for a price and we will plan the vehicle and offload, or say if a smaller vehicle is needed.
What is the difference between building sand and sharp sand?
Building (soft) sand is fine and makes smooth mortar for laying bricks. Sharp sand is coarser, drains better and is used in concrete, screeds and paving beds.
Is there a minimum order for delivery to Surrey?
There is no fixed minimum. For very small orders we will tell you honestly if the delivery cost outweighs the materials, so you can decide.
How much sand per 1,000 bricks?
Roughly 1 tonne of soft building sand at a 1:4 mortar mix.
