Things to check before you order
Soft or sharp?
Use soft building sand for mortar because it gives a smooth, sticky mix. Use sharp sand where strength and drainage matter: screeds, concrete and paving beds.
Covering bulk bags
Cover bags to stop sand drying out or getting saturated, and keep it clean of debris.
Delivering sand in Alness
Bulk bags are usually crane-lifted onto a drive or kerb where the vehicle and access allow; small bags travel with a mixed load. Alness is in an area where deliveries are priced individually because of the distance and access, so we quote each order separately.
- In summer Alness gets around 18h 05m of daylight, but early deliveries still beat the traffic and give the longest working day.
- If the drop point is block paving or soft ground, say so; heavy pallets and bulk bags can mark or sink.
- Give us the full postcode for the drop point; deliveries around IV17 are priced to the exact address.
Sizing your order
A 15 m² floor screed at 65 mm is 0.98 m³: about 1.56 tonnes of sharp sand at a 1:4 mix, or 2 bulk bags at around 850 kg each, plus the cement. Try the sand calculator
