Getting the right sand
Soft or sharp?
Use soft building sand for mortar because it gives a smooth, sticky mix. Use sharp sand where strength and drainage matter: screeds, concrete and paving beds.
Covering bulk bags
Cover bags to stop sand drying out or getting saturated, and keep it clean of debris.
Delivery to Inverness: what helps
Bulk bags are usually crane-lifted onto a drive or kerb where the vehicle and access allow; small bags travel with a mixed load. Inverness is in an area where deliveries are priced individually because of the distance and access, so we quote each order separately.
- Pallets left on a pavement can block the footway, so plan a drop point inside your boundary where you can.
- Deliveries are to the kerb, drive or within crane reach; ask if materials need to go further.
- If the drop point is block paving or soft ground, say so; heavy pallets and bulk bags can mark or sink.
Common questions from Inverness
How much sand per 1,000 bricks?
Roughly 1 tonne of soft building sand at a 1:4 mortar mix.
Can I add other materials to my Inverness delivery?
Yes. Put everything on one list, from sand to fixings and PPE, and we will price it as one delivery where the products can travel together.
How much sand do I need for a screed?
Multiply the floor area by the screed depth to get cubic metres, then allow about 1.6 tonnes of sharp sand per cubic metre plus cement at your mix. Our sand calculator does the sums.
Can you deliver sand to a site with restricted access in Inverness?
Usually, yes. Tell us about the access when you ask for a price and we will plan the vehicle and offload, or say if a smaller vehicle is needed.
