PIR Insulation Boards: choosing well

Fire considerations

PIR is a combustible product. Building regulations restrict combustible materials in some situations, such as external walls of taller buildings; check what applies.

Sealing joints

Tape the joints with foil tape so the foil layer works as a continuous vapour control layer where the design relies on it.

In Scotland most building work needs a building warrant from the local authority, assessed against the Building Standards Technical Handbooks.

Sizing your order

Insulating 20 m² of rafters, floor or wall takes 8 boards of 2400 × 1200 mm including offcuts. The thickness depends on the U-value you need, so check it before you order. Try the insulation calculator

Delivery to Alness: what helps

Boards are light but bulky; they travel in wrapped packs and should be stored flat and dry. Alness is in an area where deliveries are priced individually because of the distance and access, so we quote each order separately.

• Give us the full postcode for the drop point; deliveries around IV17 are priced to the exact address.
• Clear a level area for pallets, ideally on boards, so materials stay out of standing water.
• Keep cement, plaster and boards dry: have a tarpaulin or a garage space ready before they arrive.

PIR Insulation Boards in Alness: questions

Do you deliver PIR insulation boards to Alness?

Yes. We deliver across Alness, including IV17, IV7, IV18. Alness is in an area where deliveries are priced individually because of the distance and access, so we quote each order separately. Send your list or call 0800 088 6341 and we will price it delivered to your postcode.

How many PIR boards do I need?

Divide the area by 2.88 m² (one 2400 × 1200 board) and add about 5 to 10 percent for cutting.

Can I add other materials to my Alness delivery?

Yes. Put everything on one list, from PIR insulation boards to fixings and PPE, and we will price it as one delivery where the products can travel together.

Is PIR better than mineral wool?

PIR insulates more per millimetre, so it suits tight spaces. Mineral wool is non-combustible, cheaper per square metre and better for sound.
