Quantities: a worked example
Take a garden wall in West Midlands 5 m long and 0.9 m high: 4.5 m². At 60 bricks per square metre plus 5% for cuts that is 284 bricks, roughly 1 pack of 500 depending on the maker, laid in about 0.27 tonnes of building sand and 3 bags of cement at a 1:4 mix. Try the brick calculator
Planning the drop in West Midlands
Bricks come in strapped packs, usually on a pallet, and are lifted off by a lorry-mounted crane where the drop point allows. Our standard mainland delivery area covers West Midlands.
- If the drop point is block paving or soft ground, say so; heavy pallets and bulk bags can mark or sink.
- For a phased build we can split the order so materials arrive as each stage starts, which keeps the site clear.
- Have someone on site for the delivery if you can, or agree a safe drop point with us in advance.
Choosing bricks
Is the wall exposed?
For walls that will get very wet and freeze, such as parapets, copings, below DPC or free-standing garden walls, use a clay brick declared F2 (freeze-thaw resistant) and S2 (low soluble salts).
Matching an existing house
Bring us the brick name if you know it, or a clear photo of a cleaned face in daylight with a tape measure for scale. Size matters as much as colour: older imperial bricks are often slightly larger than 65 mm.
In England, building work is checked against the Approved Documents, for example Part A for structure and Part L for energy efficiency, through your council's building control team or a registered building control approver.
Your questions answered
Can I add other materials to my West Midlands delivery?
Yes. Put everything on one list, from bricks to fixings and PPE, and we will price it as one delivery where the products can travel together.
How many bricks are in a square metre?
With standard 215 × 65 mm bricks and 10 mm mortar joints you need about 60 bricks per square metre for a single-skin (half-brick) wall and about 120 for a one-brick-thick wall. Add around 5 percent for cuts and breakages.
Do you sell bricks in small quantities?
We price whole packs as standard because that is how bricks leave the works. For small repairs ask anyway: we will tell you honestly whether part packs are possible for the brick you need.
Is there a minimum order for delivery to West Midlands?
There is no fixed minimum. For very small orders we will tell you honestly if the delivery cost outweighs the materials, so you can decide.
