Things to check before you order

Is the wall exposed?

For walls that will get very wet and freeze, such as parapets, copings, below DPC or free-standing garden walls, use a clay brick declared F2 (freeze-thaw resistant) and S2 (low soluble salts).

Colour consistency

Order everything for one job at the same time so the bricks come from the same production run, then mix from three or four packs as you lay to blend any variation.

In England, building work is checked against the Approved Documents, for example Part A for structure and Part L for energy efficiency, through your council's building control team or a registered building control approver.

How much will you need?

Take a garden wall in Walsall 5 m long and 1.05 m high: 5.25 m². At 60 bricks per square metre plus 5% for cuts that is 331 bricks, roughly 1 pack of 500 depending on the maker, laid in about 0.31 tonnes of building sand and 3 bags of cement at a 1:4 mix. Try the brick calculator

Planning the drop in Walsall

Bricks come in strapped packs, usually on a pallet, and are lifted off by a lorry-mounted crane where the drop point allows. Walsall is inside our standard mainland delivery area.

  • Tell us the best drop point, such as a driveway, front garden or the kerb, and whether a lorry can park close to it.
  • Keep cement, plaster and boards dry: have a tarpaulin or a garage space ready before they arrive.
  • Weight limits on bridges or private roads near the site matter for larger lorries, so mention any you know of.

Bricks in Walsall: questions

Can I add other materials to my Walsall delivery?

Yes. Put everything on one list, from bricks to fixings and PPE, and we will price it as one delivery where the products can travel together.

How soon can bricks be delivered in Walsall?

We confirm the delivery date when we price your order, before you commit. It depends on the product, the quantity and whether it is a stock line or made to order.

How much mortar do 1,000 bricks need?

Roughly half a cubic metre of mixed mortar, which is about 1 tonne of building sand and 8 to 9 bags of cement at a 1:4 mix. Our brick calculator works it out for your wall.

How many bricks are in a square metre?

With standard 215 × 65 mm bricks and 10 mm mortar joints you need about 60 bricks per square metre for a single-skin (half-brick) wall and about 120 for a one-brick-thick wall. Add around 5 percent for cuts and breakages.
