Getting bricks onto your Sutton Coldfield site

Bricks come in strapped packs, usually on a pallet, and are lifted off by a lorry-mounted crane where the drop point allows. Sutton Coldfield is inside our standard mainland delivery area.

  • Clear a level area for pallets, ideally on boards, so materials stay out of standing water.
  • Pallets left on a pavement can block the footway, so plan a drop point inside your boundary where you can.
  • Have someone on site for the delivery if you can, or agree a safe drop point with us in advance.

Quantities: a worked example

Take a garden wall in Sutton Coldfield 4 m long and 1.05 m high: 4.2 m². At 60 bricks per square metre plus 5% for cuts that is 265 bricks, roughly 1 pack of 500 depending on the maker, laid in about 0.25 tonnes of building sand and 3 bags of cement at a 1:4 mix. Try the brick calculator

Getting the right bricks

Matching an existing house

Bring us the brick name if you know it, or a clear photo of a cleaned face in daylight with a tape measure for scale. Size matters as much as colour: older imperial bricks are often slightly larger than 65 mm.

Engineering Class A or B?

Class A is the denser of the two and is usually chosen where strength or very low water absorption matters; Class B is the common choice below DPC and for manholes; a brick DPC course in a building needs Class A (DPC1). Your designer or building control may specify one.

In England, building work is checked against the Approved Documents, for example Part A for structure and Part L for energy efficiency, through your council's building control team or a registered building control approver.

Bricks in Sutton Coldfield: questions

Can I add other materials to my Sutton Coldfield delivery?

Yes. Put everything on one list, from bricks to fixings and PPE, and we will price it as one delivery where the products can travel together.

Which bricks go below the damp-proof course?

Below DPC you need bricks that cope with constant damp and frost: engineering bricks, or clay facings declared F2 and S2. Concrete bricks are another option for below-ground work.

Is there a minimum order for delivery to Sutton Coldfield?

There is no fixed minimum. For very small orders we will tell you honestly if the delivery cost outweighs the materials, so you can decide.

How many bricks come in a pack?

It depends on the manufacturer and the brick. Packs of 400, 475 and 500 are common. We confirm the pack size with your price so you can order whole packs.
