Working out quantities for your Staffordshire job

Take a garden wall in Staffordshire 8 m long and 1.8 m high: 14.4 m². At 60 bricks per square metre plus 5% for cuts that is 908 bricks, roughly 2 packs of 500 depending on the maker, laid in about 0.85 tonnes of building sand and 8 bags of cement at a 1:4 mix. Try the brick calculator

How delivery works in Staffordshire

Bricks come in strapped packs, usually on a pallet, and are lifted off by a lorry-mounted crane where the drop point allows. Our standard mainland delivery area covers Staffordshire.

  • For a phased build we can split the order so materials arrive as each stage starts, which keeps the site clear.
  • Clear a level area for pallets, ideally on boards, so materials stay out of standing water.
  • Pallets left on a pavement can block the footway, so plan a drop point inside your boundary where you can.

Getting the right bricks

Is the wall exposed?

For walls that will get very wet and freeze, such as parapets, copings, below DPC or free-standing garden walls, use a clay brick declared F2 (freeze-thaw resistant) and S2 (low soluble salts).

Engineering Class A or B?

Class A is the denser of the two and is usually chosen where strength or very low water absorption matters; Class B is the common choice below DPC and for manholes; a brick DPC course in a building needs Class A (DPC1). Your designer or building control may specify one.

In England, building work is checked against the Approved Documents, for example Part A for structure and Part L for energy efficiency, through your council's building control team or a registered building control approver.

Ordering bricks for Staffordshire: FAQs

How soon can bricks be delivered in Staffordshire?

We confirm the delivery date when we price your order, before you commit. It depends on the product, the quantity and whether it is a stock line or made to order.

Do you deliver bricks to trades and homeowners in Staffordshire?

Both. Trades can apply for a trade account; homeowners and self-builders can order on a delivered quote.

Do you sell bricks in small quantities?

We price whole packs as standard because that is how bricks leave the works. For small repairs ask anyway: we will tell you honestly whether part packs are possible for the brick you need.

Which bricks go below the damp-proof course?

Below DPC you need bricks that cope with constant damp and frost: engineering bricks, or clay facings declared F2 and S2. Concrete bricks are another option for below-ground work.
