Getting the right bricks

Engineering Class A or B?

Class A is the denser of the two and is usually chosen where strength or very low water absorption matters; Class B is the common choice below DPC and for manholes; a brick DPC course in a building needs Class A (DPC1). Your designer or the council's building standards service may specify one.

Matching an existing house

Bring us the brick name if you know it, or a clear photo of a cleaned face in daylight with a tape measure for scale. Size matters as much as colour: older imperial bricks are often slightly larger than 65 mm.

In Scotland most building work needs a building warrant from the local authority, assessed against the Building Standards Technical Handbooks.

A quick quantity check

Take a garden wall in Dundee 10 m long and 1.2 m high: 12 m². At 60 bricks per square metre plus 5% for cuts that is 756 bricks, roughly 2 packs of 500 depending on the maker, laid in about 0.71 tonnes of building sand and 7 bags of cement at a 1:4 mix. Try the brick calculator

Before your Dundee delivery arrives

Bricks come in strapped packs, usually on a pallet, and are lifted off by a lorry-mounted crane where the drop point allows. Dundee is inside our standard mainland delivery area.

  • Tell us the best drop point, such as a driveway, front garden or the kerb, and whether a lorry can park close to it.
  • Pallets left on a pavement can block the footway, so plan a drop point inside your boundary where you can.
  • On busy streets in Dundee, a parking suspension or a quiet time slot can make offloading safer, so tell us about local restrictions you know of.

Bricks questions

Do you sell bricks in small quantities?

We price whole packs as standard because that is how bricks leave the works. For small repairs ask anyway: we will tell you honestly whether part packs are possible for the brick you need.

Can you deliver bricks to a site with restricted access in Dundee?

Usually, yes. Tell us about the access when you ask for a price and we will plan the vehicle and offload, or say if a smaller vehicle is needed.

Do you deliver bricks to trades and homeowners in Dundee?

Both. Trades can apply for a trade account; homeowners and self-builders can order on a delivered quote.

How many bricks come in a pack?

It depends on the manufacturer and the brick. Packs of 400, 475 and 500 are common. We confirm the pack size with your price so you can order whole packs.
