Working out quantities for your Doncaster job

Take a garden wall in Doncaster 10 m long and 1.2 m high: 12 m². At 60 bricks per square metre plus 5% for cuts that is 756 bricks, roughly 2 packs of 500 depending on the maker, laid in about 0.71 tonnes of building sand and 7 bags of cement at a 1:4 mix. Try the brick calculator

Choosing bricks

Engineering Class A or B?

Class A is the denser of the two and is usually chosen where strength or very low water absorption matters; Class B is the common choice below DPC and for manholes; a brick DPC course in a building needs Class A (DPC1). Your designer or building control may specify one.

Colour consistency

Order everything for one job at the same time so the bricks come from the same production run, then mix from three or four packs as you lay to blend any variation.

In England, building work is checked against the Approved Documents, for example Part A for structure and Part L for energy efficiency, through your council's building control team or a registered building control approver.

How delivery works in Doncaster

Bricks come in strapped packs, usually on a pallet, and are lifted off by a lorry-mounted crane where the drop point allows. Doncaster is inside our standard mainland delivery area.

  • For a phased build we can split the order so materials arrive as each stage starts, which keeps the site clear.
  • Have someone on site for the delivery if you can, or agree a safe drop point with us in advance.
  • Clear a level area for pallets, ideally on boards, so materials stay out of standing water.
