Things to check before you order
Is the wall exposed?
For walls that will get very wet and freeze, such as parapets, copings, below DPC or free-standing garden walls, use a clay brick declared F2 (freeze-thaw resistant) and S2 (low soluble salts).
Colour consistency
Order everything for one job at the same time so the bricks come from the same production run, then mix from three or four packs as you lay to blend any variation.
In Scotland most building work needs a building warrant from the local authority, assessed against the Building Standards Technical Handbooks.
Delivering bricks in Alness
Bricks come in strapped packs, usually on a pallet, and are lifted off by a lorry-mounted crane where the drop point allows. Alness is in an area where deliveries are priced individually because of the distance and access, so we quote each order separately.
- Clear a level area for pallets, ideally on boards, so materials stay out of standing water.
- Weight limits on bridges or private roads near the site matter for larger lorries, so mention any you know of.
- Keep cement, plaster and boards dry: have a tarpaulin or a garage space ready before they arrive.
How much will you need?
Take a garden wall in Alness 5 m long and 0.9 m high: 4.5 m². At 60 bricks per square metre plus 5% for cuts that is 284 bricks, roughly 1 pack of 500 depending on the maker, laid in about 0.27 tonnes of building sand and 3 bags of cement at a 1:4 mix. Try the brick calculator
Ordering bricks for Alness: FAQs
Do you deliver bricks to trades and homeowners in Alness?
Both. Trades can apply for a trade account; homeowners and self-builders can order on a delivered quote.
How soon can bricks be delivered in Alness?
We confirm the delivery date when we price your order, before you commit. It depends on the product, the quantity and whether it is a stock line or made to order.
Do you sell bricks in small quantities?
We price whole packs as standard because that is how bricks leave the works. For small repairs ask anyway: we will tell you honestly whether part packs are possible for the brick you need.
How many bricks come in a pack?
It depends on the manufacturer and the brick. Packs of 400, 475 and 500 are common. We confirm the pack size with your price so you can order whole packs.
