Getting the right screws and nails

Structural fixings

Joist hangers, straps and structural connections need the fixings the connector maker specifies.

Length

A rule of thumb is a fixing at least two and a half times the thickness of the piece you are fixing.

Getting screws and nails onto your Briton Ferry site

Boxed fixings travel with the rest of your order. Briton Ferry is inside our standard mainland delivery area.

• If the drop point is block paving or soft ground, say so; heavy pallets and bulk bags can mark or sink.
• Mention any overhead cables, low branches or narrow gateways, because they decide whether a crane offload is possible.
• Pallets left on a pavement can block the footway, so plan a drop point inside your boundary where you can.

Quantities: a worked example

Fixing 30 sheets of plasterboard at about 35 screws a sheet uses 1,050 drywall screws, or 2 boxes of 1,000.
