Picking the right product

Tapered or square edge?

Tapered edge boards are for taping and jointing without a skim; square edge boards are normally skimmed.

Which thickness?

12.5 mm is the everyday choice for walls and ceilings on 400 or 600 mm centres; 9.5 mm suits ceilings at 400 mm centres. Fire and acoustic designs may call for 15 mm or two layers.

Wales has its own Approved Documents, including its own Part L for energy efficiency, and building control is handled by the local authority or a registered approver.

Delivery to Ystalyfera: what helps

Boards are heavy and fragile at the edges; they travel flat and are best stored flat and dry. Ystalyfera is inside our standard mainland delivery area.

• In summer Ystalyfera gets around 16h 41m of daylight, but early deliveries still beat the traffic and give the longest working day.
• If the site is up a shared drive or behind other houses, tell us the distance from the road.
• Keep cement, plaster and boards dry: have a tarpaulin or a garage space ready before they arrive.

Can you deliver plasterboard to a site with restricted access in Ystalyfera?

Usually, yes. Tell us about the access when you ask for a price and we will plan the vehicle and offload, or say if a smaller vehicle is needed.

Can I add other materials to my Ystalyfera delivery?

Yes. Put everything on one list, from plasterboard to fixings and PPE, and we will price it as one delivery where the products can travel together.

How many screws per board?

Around 30 to 40 drywall screws for a 2400 × 1200 board on a wall, with screws at about 300 mm centres.

What plasterboard for a bathroom?

Moisture-resistant board for general bathroom walls and ceilings. In shower areas use a tile backer board designed for wet areas.
