Plasterboard calculator: sheets and screws
Divide the area by 2.88 m² (one 2400 × 1200 sheet), add about 10 percent for cutting, and allow around 30 to 40 drywall screws per sheet on walls.

Quantities are estimates using standard UK rules of thumb and are shown with their working. We check them against your job before we price anything.
How the calculation works
- Area = length × height (both sides for a new partition)
- Sheets = area ÷ 2.88, + 10%
- Screws ≈ 35 per sheet
- Studs = length ÷ centres + 1, plus head and sole plates
Worked example
A new partition 4 m long and 2.4 m high, boarded both sides: 19.2 m² ÷ 2.88 = 6.7, plus 10% = 8 sheets and about 280 screws; 11 studs at 400 mm centres plus plates.
What to order with it
- Plasterboard: Standard, moisture, fire, acoustic and thermal boards.
- CLS Studwork Timber: Kiln-dried, planed, rounded-edge studding for partitions.
- Screws & Nails: Wood, drywall, decking and frame screws; wire and clout nails.
Quantities are estimates. Pack sizes, bag weights and coverage vary by manufacturer; we confirm them on your quote.
