Planed Timber & Mouldings: choosing well

Nominal versus finished size

Planing takes material off, so a timber sold as 'nominal' 2 × 4 finishes smaller. Always check finished sizes when you need an exact fit.

Softwood or MDF trim?

MDF skirting and architrave is very straight and paints well; softwood takes knocks better and can be stained.

Sizing your order

A 3.8 × 3.2 m room with one door has about 13.2 m of wall to skirt. With 10% for joints and offcuts that is 14.5 m, or 4 lengths of 4.2 m skirting, plus architrave for each side of the door.

Before your Isleworth delivery arrives

Finished timber is protected and handled with care; tell us if it needs to go inside out of the weather. Isleworth is inside our standard mainland delivery area.

• Mention any overhead cables, low branches or narrow gateways, because they decide whether a crane offload is possible.
• Deliveries are to the kerb, drive or within crane reach; ask if materials need to go further.
• In summer Isleworth gets around 16h 38m of daylight, but early deliveries still beat the traffic and give the longest working day.

Common questions from Isleworth

What does PAR mean?

Planed all round: the timber has been machined smooth on all four faces.

Can I add other materials to my Isleworth delivery?

Yes. Put everything on one list, from planed timber to fixings and PPE, and we will price it as one delivery where the products can travel together.

Can you deliver planed timber to a site with restricted access in Isleworth?

Usually, yes. Tell us about the access when you ask for a price and we will plan the vehicle and offload, or say if a smaller vehicle is needed.

Do you sell MDF skirting?

Yes, primed MDF skirting and architrave in common profiles, alongside softwood.
