Delivery to Guildford: what helps

Finished timber is protected and handled with care; tell us if it needs to go inside out of the weather. Guildford is inside our standard mainland delivery area.

• On busy streets in Guildford, a parking suspension or a quiet time slot can make offloading safer, so tell us about local restrictions you know of.
• Pallets left on a pavement can block the footway, so plan a drop point inside your boundary where you can.
• If neighbours share the access, it helps to let them know a lorry is coming.

A quick quantity check

A 4.2 × 4 m room with one door has about 15.6 m of wall to skirt. With 10% for joints and offcuts that is 17.2 m, or 5 lengths of 4.2 m skirting, plus architrave for each side of the door.

Getting the right planed timber

Nominal versus finished size

Planing takes material off, so a timber sold as 'nominal' 2 × 4 finishes smaller. Always check finished sizes when you need an exact fit.

Softwood or MDF trim?

MDF skirting and architrave is very straight and paints well; softwood takes knocks better and can be stained.
