Fire considerations

PIR is a combustible product. Building regulations restrict combustible materials in some situations, such as external walls of taller buildings; check what applies.

Sealing joints

Tape the joints with foil tape so the foil layer works as a continuous vapour control layer where the design relies on it.

In England, building work is checked against the Approved Documents, for example Part A for structure and Part L for energy efficiency, through your council's building control team or a registered building control approver.

How much will you need?

Insulating 45 m² of rafters, floor or wall takes 17 boards of 2400 × 1200 mm including offcuts. The thickness depends on the U-value you need, so check it before you order. Try the insulation calculator

Delivering PIR insulation boards in Huyton

Boards are light but bulky; they travel in wrapped packs and should be stored flat and dry. Huyton is inside our standard mainland delivery area.

• Clear a level area for pallets, ideally on boards, so materials stay out of standing water.
• Have someone on site for the delivery if you can, or agree a safe drop point with us in advance.
• With roughly 7h 29m of daylight in Huyton around the shortest day, morning deliveries leave more working light for the job.

Common questions from Huyton

Is PIR better than mineral wool?

PIR insulates more per millimetre, so it suits tight spaces. Mineral wool is non-combustible, cheaper per square metre and better for sound.

What is the foil for?

The foil facing reflects heat, protects the foam and, when joints are taped, can act as a vapour control layer.

Do you deliver PIR insulation boards to trades and homeowners in Huyton?

Both. Trades can apply for a trade account; homeowners and self-builders can order on a delivered quote.

Can you deliver PIR insulation boards to a site with restricted access in Huyton?

Usually, yes. Tell us about the access when you ask for a price and we will plan the vehicle and offload, or say if a smaller vehicle is needed.
