Getting the right OSB, MDF and chipboard

OSB or plywood?

OSB3 is usually cheaper and fine for most structural decking in humid conditions. Plywood is stiffer, takes fixings near edges better and performs better where it may get wet.

Which flooring?

P5 chipboard flooring is the standard moisture-resistant floor deck. 18 mm is common at 400 mm joist centres and 22 mm at 600 mm centres, but follow the maker's span table.

Before your Washington delivery arrives

Sheets come in packs on the lorry bed, crane-lifted or hand-offloaded. Washington is inside our standard mainland delivery area.

• If neighbours share the access, it helps to let them know a lorry is coming.
• If the site is up a shared drive or behind other houses, tell us the distance from the road.
• If the drop point is block paving or soft ground, say so; heavy pallets and bulk bags can mark or sink.

Sizing your order

Decking 30 m² with 2440 × 1220 mm sheets takes 12 sheets including 10% for cutting. In P5 chipboard flooring (2400 × 600 mm) the same floor takes 23 boards.

Common questions from Washington

Can OSB get wet?

OSB3 copes with humid conditions and short exposure during construction, but it should not be left in the rain for long or used where it stays wet.

Can you deliver OSB, MDF and chipboard to a site with restricted access in Washington?

Usually, yes. Tell us about the access when you ask for a price and we will plan the vehicle and offload, or say if a smaller vehicle is needed.

Is MDF waterproof?

No. Moisture-resistant MDF handles humid rooms better than standard MDF but must still be sealed and kept out of direct water.

Do you deliver OSB, MDF and chipboard to trades and homeowners in Washington?
