Getting the right OSB, MDF and chipboard

Which flooring?

P5 chipboard flooring is the standard moisture-resistant floor deck. 18 mm is common at 400 mm joist centres and 22 mm at 600 mm centres, but follow the maker's span table.

OSB or plywood?

OSB3 is usually cheaper and fine for most structural decking in humid conditions. Plywood is stiffer, takes fixings near edges better and performs better where it may get wet.

Working out quantities for your Stanley job

Decking 36 m² with 2440 × 1220 mm sheets takes 14 sheets including 10% for cutting. In P5 chipboard flooring (2400 × 600 mm) the same floor takes 28 boards.

Getting OSB, MDF and chipboard onto your Stanley site

Sheets come in packs on the lorry bed, crane-lifted or hand-offloaded. Stanley is inside our standard mainland delivery area.

• Mention any overhead cables, low branches or narrow gateways, because they decide whether a crane offload is possible.
• Keep cement, plaster and boards dry: have a tarpaulin or a garage space ready before they arrive.
• In summer Stanley gets around 17h 21m of daylight, but early deliveries still beat the traffic and give the longest working day.

What is OSB3?

OSB3 is oriented strand board graded for load-bearing use in humid conditions under BS EN 300. It is the common grade for floors, roofs and sheathing.

Is MDF waterproof?

No. Moisture-resistant MDF handles humid rooms better than standard MDF but must still be sealed and kept out of direct water.

Can I add other materials to my Stanley delivery?

Yes. Put everything on one list, from OSB, MDF and chipboard to fixings and PPE, and we will price it as one delivery where the products can travel together.

Is there a minimum order for delivery to Stanley?

There is no fixed minimum. For very small orders we will tell you honestly if the delivery cost outweighs the materials, so you can decide.
