Virgin or recycled?
Recycled Type 1 can be a good option where it meets the specification; ask what your project or local authority requires.
Compaction
Lay and compact in layers with a plate compactor. Allow extra material because it compacts down.
How much will you need?
A 10 × 4 m area at 150 mm compacted is 6 m³. At about 2.1 tonnes per cubic metre plus 10% that is 13.9 tonnes, or around 17 bulk bags. Try the sub-base calculator
Common questions from March
Can you tip it loose?
For larger quantities we can price a loose tipped load if the lorry can reach and there is space to tip.
How much MOT Type 1 do I need?
Multiply the area by the compacted depth to get cubic metres, then allow about 2.1 to 2.2 tonnes per cubic metre. At 100 mm deep, a tonne covers roughly 4.5 square metres.
