Getting the right mineral wool insulation
Glass or stone wool?
Glass wool rolls are light and economical for lofts. Stone wool slabs are denser and often chosen for acoustics and fire stopping.
How much for a loft?
The common recommendation is 270 mm in total: usually 100 mm between the joists and 170 mm across them. Check the depth already there.
In England, building work is checked against the Approved Documents, for example Part A for structure and Part L for energy efficiency, through your council's building control team or a registered building control approver.
Delivering mineral wool insulation in March
Rolls are compressed and wrapped; they are light but take up space, so tell us if storage is tight. March is inside our standard mainland delivery area.
- If the site is up a shared drive or behind other houses, tell us the distance from the road.
- In summer March gets around 16h 50m of daylight, but early deliveries still beat the traffic and give the longest working day.
- For a phased build we can split the order so materials arrive as each stage starts, which keeps the site clear.
Your questions answered
Do I need protective gear?
Wear gloves, long sleeves and a dust mask when handling mineral wool, as it can irritate skin and eyes.
Is there a minimum order for delivery to March?
There is no fixed minimum. For very small orders we will tell you honestly if the delivery cost outweighs the materials, so you can decide.
Can you deliver mineral wool insulation to a site with restricted access in March?
Usually, yes. Tell us about the access when you ask for a price and we will plan the vehicle and offload, or say if a smaller vehicle is needed.
How many rolls do I need for my loft?
Divide the loft floor area by the coverage printed on the roll, for each layer. Coverage varies by brand and thickness; a 100 mm roll typically covers around 8 m² and a 170 mm roll around 5 m².
