Before you order MOT Type 1
How deep?
Patios and paths commonly use around 100 mm of compacted sub-base, and domestic driveways around 150 mm or more. Soft ground or heavier vehicles need more; your designer or installer will confirm.
Compaction
Lay and compact in layers with a plate compactor. Allow extra material because it compacts down.
How delivery works in Glasgow
Bulk bags are usually crane-offloaded where access allows; very large quantities can be priced as loose tipped loads where access allows. Glasgow is inside our standard mainland delivery area.
- Give us the full postcode for the drop point; deliveries around G1 are priced to the exact address.
- Pallets left on a pavement can block the footway, so plan a drop point inside your boundary where you can.
- In summer Glasgow gets around 17h 35m of daylight, but early deliveries still beat the traffic and give the longest working day.
How much will you need?
An 8 × 6 m area at 100 mm compacted is 4.8 m³. At about 2.1 tonnes per cubic metre plus 10% that is 11.1 tonnes, or around 14 bulk bags. Try the sub-base calculator
Ordering MOT Type 1 for Glasgow: FAQs
What is the difference between Type 1 and scalpings?
Type 1 is graded to a specification so it compacts into a strong, stable layer. Scalpings are less controlled and suit less demanding areas.
Can you deliver MOT Type 1 to a site with restricted access in Glasgow?
Usually, yes. Tell us about the access when you ask for a price and we will plan the vehicle and offload, or say if a smaller vehicle is needed.
Does Type 1 drain?
Type 1 is reasonably free-draining when compacted, which is one reason it is used under drives and patios.
Do you deliver MOT Type 1 to trades and homeowners in Glasgow?
Both. Trades can apply for a trade account; homeowners and self-builders can order on a delivered quote.
