How delivery works in Derby
Bulk bags are usually crane-offloaded where access allows; very large quantities can be priced as loose tipped loads where access allows. Derby is inside our standard mainland delivery area.
- Mention any overhead cables, low branches or narrow gateways, because they decide whether a crane offload is possible.
- Weight limits on bridges or private roads near the site matter for larger lorries, so mention any you know of.
- If the site is up a shared drive or behind other houses, tell us the distance from the road.
Quantities: a worked example
An 8 × 3 m area at 150 mm compacted is 3.6 m³. At about 2.1 tonnes per cubic metre plus 10% that is 8.3 tonnes, or around 10 bulk bags. Try the sub-base calculator
MOT Type 1 Sub-base: choosing well
Virgin or recycled?
Recycled Type 1 can be a good option where it meets the specification; ask what your project or local authority requires.
How deep?
Patios and paths commonly use around 100 mm of compacted sub-base, and domestic driveways around 150 mm or more. Soft ground or heavier vehicles need more; your designer or installer will confirm.
MOT Type 1 Sub-base questions
How deep should a driveway sub-base be?
Around 150 mm of compacted MOT Type 1 is common for domestic drives on firm ground; soft ground or heavier vehicles need more. Follow your installer or the paving maker's guidance.
Can you deliver MOT Type 1 to a site with restricted access in Derby?
Usually, yes. Tell us about the access when you ask for a price and we will plan the vehicle and offload, or say if a smaller vehicle is needed.
What is the difference between Type 1 and scalpings?
Type 1 is graded to a specification so it compacts into a strong, stable layer. Scalpings are less controlled and suit less demanding areas.
How soon can MOT Type 1 be delivered in Derby?
We confirm the delivery date when we price your order, before you commit. It depends on the product, the quantity and whether it is a stock line or made to order.
